Not yet confirmed as to how many companies were affected by the data breach.

One day after the developer of the popular file transfer service MOVEit Transfer reported that a security hole had been discovered, US security researchers said on Thursday that hackers had stolen data from the devices of several users from the tool.

Following the vulnerability's disclosure on Wednesday, software developer Progress Software Corp warned that it might allow third parties access to customers' systems.
The Burlington, Massachusetts-based company's managed file transfer software enables businesses to send files and data to clients and business partners.

It was not immediately clear which or how many organisations using the software were harmed by potential breaches. Ian Pitt, the chief information officer, declined to provide those specifics but said that Progress Software had made remedies available following its discovery of the vulnerability late on May 28.
Cybersecurity firm Rapid7 Inc and Mandiant Consulting – owned by Alphabet Inc's Google said they had found several cases in which the flaw had been exploited to steal data
